About U.S. Mission to Nigeria

The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises the Embassy in Abuja and the Consulate General in Lagos. The U.S. Consulate General Lagos serves as the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region, while the Embassy in Abuja oversees bilateral relations and consular services across Nigeria.


About the Role

The Consular Associate will work within the Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, under the supervision of the Consular Chief.
This role involves providing consular services to U.S. citizens, supporting visa operations, assisting with fraud prevention, and managing sensitive communications with the public, government officials, and other stakeholders.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide consular services to U.S. citizens in the American Citizen Services (ACS) Unit.

  • Support nonimmigrant and immigrant visa processing in the NIV and IV Units.

  • Assist with fraud prevention investigations and validation studies.

  • Handle official correspondence with attorneys, U.S. and host governments, Congress, and the public.

  • Input and manage data in consular systems, ensuring accuracy and compliance.

  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive cases with tact and good judgment.

Requisite Qualifications and Experience

Education

  • Completion of High School (secondary education) is required.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in office administration.

Language

  • Fluency in spoken, written, and read English is required.

Job Knowledge

  • General understanding of U.S. policies related to consular and visa operations.

Skills & Abilities

  • Strong data entry and error-checking skills.

  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and database management.

  • Strong organizational and task management skills.

  • Effective communication and report-writing abilities.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of State Secret Security Clearance.

  • Sound judgment, tact, and interpersonal skills in handling sensitive cases.

  • Ability to learn and apply U.S. and Nigerian laws, regulations, and legal precedents.


Salary

  • USD $43,112 per year.
