The Role
The Regional English Connects Lead, SSA will be responsible for leading the English Connects programme and driving innovation in online teacher development across Sub-Saharan Africa.
This strategic leadership role involves designing and delivering high-quality digital capacity-building programmes for teachers and educators, providing sector expertise in EdTech, ensuring alignment with British Council standards, and contributing to global English Connects strategy.
The postholder will also lead a regional team, manage budgets, and maintain strong stakeholder engagement to deliver sustainable impact in English language education.
Key Accountabilities

Lead the English Connects programme and online teacher development across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Design and deliver innovative, high-quality digital capacity-building initiatives.

Provide thought leadership and sector expertise in English Language Teaching (ELT) and digital education.

Oversee programme planning, quality assurance, and budget management.

Manage and support regional teams, ensuring strategic alignment and effective performance.

Advise on best practices in digital education in collaboration with global teams.

Drive product and service innovation, contributing insights to global English Connects strategy.

Engage with stakeholders and partners to strengthen collaboration and programme delivery.

Requirements

English language teaching qualification.

Experience managing teacher development projects (face-to-face and online).

Demonstrated experience in digital communities of practice or online learning networks.

Strong understanding of ELT in education policy, research, and international trends, particularly in digital education.

Proven experience in grant or contract management.
