Role Background
The Hausa Language Information Assistant will provide essential support to the UN Resident Coordinator’s Office (RCO) through the United Nations Information Centre (UNIC) in Abuja.
UNIC works closely with the UN Country Team to promote the priorities, ideals, and goals of the United Nations System in Nigeria through media engagement, social media, public events, publications, and partnerships. The Assistant will play a key role in ensuring that UN messages effectively reach Hausa-speaking communities.
Reporting Line
The Hausa Language Information Assistant will report to the Head of the Resident Coordinator’s Office, with day-to-day supervision from UNIC Abuja.
Key Responsibilities

Translate UN messages (from SG, DSG, RC, and other officials) into Hausa, ensuring accessibility to Hausa-speaking audiences.

Produce multimedia content (audio and video) in Hausa for effective dissemination across social media platforms.

Manage a database of Hausa media partners to distribute UN content via radio, TV, print media, WhatsApp channels, and groups.

Create Hausa video messages and graphics to highlight important UN international days and campaigns.

Share messages related to the Pact of the Future to expand outreach in Hausa-speaking communities.

Perform other duties as assigned by the RC’s Head of Office, UNIC Director, and Senior Officers in the RCO.
Qualifications & Special Skills

Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mass Communication, Journalism, International Relations, or Development Studies.

Experience:
-
Minimum 3 years’ experience in a media house in Northern Nigeria, with proven publishing or broadcasting in Hausa.

Prior experience working with development organizations is desirable.

Technical Skills:
-
Strong social media management skills.

Experience in radio production: directing, editing, digital radio, and webcasting.

Additional experience with print media or TV will be an advantage.
