Job Summary
Reporting to the Head of Impact, the Humanitarian Lead will play a pivotal role in:

Setting up new emergency programmes.

Managing ongoing humanitarian responses in multiple countries (with a focus on West & Central Africa).

Driving people-centred humanitarian reform advocacy to ensure that the sector increasingly aligns with locally led, survivor-driven programming in line with Christian Aid’s values and goals.
Key Responsibilities
-
Lead and collaborate on emergency and humanitarian response programmes to maximise impact.
-
Manage and mentor humanitarian staff, ensuring integration with Country Teams and organisational goals.

Actively participate in Country Leadership Teams to embed humanitarian priorities into broader country strategies.

Oversee humanitarian response strategies, funding proposals, budget planning, monitoring, and reporting.

Ensure timely and accountable delivery of programmes, in line with Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS), safeguarding, inclusion, DRR, and resilience frameworks.

Drive policy advocacy in national and international humanitarian forums, feeding into Christian Aid’s global advocacy agenda.

Strengthen partnerships and ensure staff/partners are aligned with Christian Aid’s focus on anticipatory action, cash transfer programming, and survivor-led responses.

Provide technical expertise, coordinating with internal and external experts for high-quality programming.

Represent Christian Aid in UNOCHA, clusters, ACT Alliance, donor, and civil society platforms, leveraging collaboration opportunities.
About You – Requirements
Essential:
-
Fluency in French and English (written & spoken).
-
University degree or equivalent.
-
Extensive knowledge of humanitarian issues and best practices.
-
Proven experience in both rapid response and protracted emergencies, or in resilience-focused programmes.
-
Multi-country humanitarian programme support experience (Middle East experience is an advantage).
-
Strong understanding of CHS, SPHERE, and other humanitarian standards.

Experience in emergency programme cycle management (needs assessments, funding, implementation, review, evaluation).

Demonstrated leadership with ability to empower staff and teams.

Excellent time management, resilience, and multitasking skills.

Strong written and oral communication skills (English & French).

Ability to build and sustain effective partnerships.
Desirable:
-
Management qualification.
-
Experience in NGO/humanitarian facilitation and learning processes.
