About the Job
- The Logistics Manager is the strategic leader responsible for SANY NIGERIA’s supply chain flow, from international procurement to final customer delivery.
- The core mandate is to ensure the timely, compliant, and cost-effective importation and customs clearance of all heavy equipment and spare parts, followed by secure and efficient local last-mile delivery to buyers across Nigeria, including the management of all compliance and transfer documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Importation & Customs Management (Inbound Focus):
- Serve as the primary expert for Nigerian Customs procedures. Direct the seamless processing and timely clearance of all inbound shipments at major ports to eliminate demurrage and port-related fines.
- Ensure 100% compliance with all Nigerian import regulations, including SONCAP, Form M, PAAR processing, and handling of pre-shipment inspections (PSI).
- Proactively manage and resolve complex customs queries, valuation disputes, and regulatory roadblocks with minimal business disruption.
- Select, audit, and manage customs brokers and clearing agents, holding them accountable to strict performance and compliance.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Local Logistics & Customer Delivery (Outbound Focus):
- Plan, execute, and monitor the secure and cost-effective local transportation of heavy, oversized equipment from the port or SANY yard to customer sites across all regions in Nigeria.
- Crucially, oversee the preparation and management of all necessary transfer papers, vehicle registration documents, and regulatory permits required to legally transfer ownership and operation of the heavy equipment to local buyers.
- Coordinate closely with the Sales and Service teams to meet committed delivery schedules and ensure customer site readiness for equipment reception.
- Fleet/Vendor Management: Manage and audit local haulage vendors to ensure safety, reliability, and appropriate handling of high-value machinery.
Strategy, Cost Control & Inventory:
- Negotiate and manage contracts with international shipping lines and logistics vendors to achieve the lowest possible total importation cost per unit.
- Develop and track logistics KPIs, specifically focusing on “Time-to-Clearance” and “On-Time Final Customer Delivery” to drive operational excellence.
- Liaise with the Warehouse team regarding incoming shipment schedules and yard space planning for efficient equipment staging.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, or a related technical / Business field.
- Minimum of 7 years in logistics and supply chain, with 4+ years specifically managing the importation and customs clearance of heavy-duty machinery or high-value industrial goods in Nigeria.
- Proven track record of successful engagement and negotiation with Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) and other regulatory bodies.
- Demonstrated experience in managing local haulage, documentation, and compliance for vehicle/equipment ownership transfer in Nigeria.
Technical & Soft Skills:
- Deep, operational knowledge of customs documentation (Form M, PAAR, HS Codes, Duty Calculation).
- Proven ability to reduce demurrage and logistics lead times.
- Strong vendor management and negotiation skills.
- Exceptional problem-solving and crisis management capabilities under pressure.
