Leadway Assurance Company Limited was founded in 1970. Sir (Dr.) Hassan O. Odukale, (KJW, D.Sc., FCIIN).It has a chequered history of being a company with close attention to relationships, having started operations as a direct motor insurance company. Soon the relationship developed to a stage where it has established a deep relationship with the brokers’ network in Nigeria, enjoying 80% of its current business from this source. The pivotal point at Leadway is “the customer” and the company has enjoyed a steady growth in its commitment to providing integrated insurance and financial services to its numerous customers. The Company’s remarkable success has been possible because of its sound professional and business standards backed by the uncompromising level of integrity of its Directors. An uncompromising level of integrity of service is a tradition imbibed at LEADWAY and instilled by its late founder, Sir (Dr.) Hassan O. Odukale, KJW, D.Sc, FCIIN (1926-1999). As an astute and honest businessman the founding Managing Director and later Chairman of the Board of Directors, Sir Odukale nurtured the Company to an enviable position in the Nigerian insurance industry. His vision of dedicated service to all customers remains a guiding principle that shapes the policies of the company. LEADWAY is a private company with 42 shareholders, 14 of which are corporate investors, and 2 Trust Corporations.

Job Purpose Statement

As an ESG Manager your primary responsibility is to lead and drive the implementation of our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives. Working closely with the executive team and key stakeholders, you will play a pivotal role in developing and executing strategies that align with our commitment to sustainable and responsible business practices.

 

Key Responsibilities

1. ESG Framework Development:

  • Lead the design and implementation of a comprehensive ESG framework that reflects the values and goals of Leadway.
  • Develop and execute strategies to integrate ESG considerations into all aspects of our business operations.

2. Risk Assessment and Management:

  • Conduct thorough assessments of environmental, social, and governance risks associated
    with our operations.
  • Implement risk management strategies to mitigate and address identified ESG risks,
    ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.

3. Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Foster positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including investors, regulators, and community partners.
  • Communicate ESG initiatives transparently and effectively, showcasing our commitment to
    responsible business practices.

4. Reporting and Compliance:

  • Oversee the preparation and submission of ESG-related reports to relevant authorities and stakeholders.
  • Oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of ESG metrics, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure compliance with ESG disclosure standards (IFRS S1/S2), regulations, and frameworks.

5. Employee Training and Awareness:

  •  Collaborate with HR and relevant departments to develop training programs that enhance employee awareness and understanding of ESG principles.
  • Promote a culture of responsibility and sustainability within the organization.

6. Driving Sustainability Excellence:

  • Serve as the internal SME on all sustainability matters, providing guidance and insight to various departments within the organization.
  • Lead on ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) initiatives, overseeing their
    development and implementation across products, processes, and projects.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging issues related to ESG.
  • Continuously assess and enhance our ESG initiatives to align with evolving standards and expectations.

7. Seek Funding Opportunities:

  • Identify external sources of funding available for strategic ESG initiatives and in collaboration with the Finance department, prepare funding proposals to secure financial
    support for ESG initiatives and projects.
  • Manage reporting requirements and compliance obligations associated with funded
    projects, ensuring transparency and accountability.
