Legal Associate
Job Summary
We are looking for a Lawyer, who will be responsible for using their specialized knowledge of national, state or local laws to help their clients receive fair representation in a court of law. The Lawyers’ duties include meeting with clients to determine their needs, coordinating with Legal Assistants and other legal professionals to compile documents and speaking on behalf of their clients in court.

Reports To: Associate reports directly to immediate Supervisor.
Job Overview
A legal associate is a person who is involved in understanding the client’s legal requirements and crafting solutions thereof. They work under the supervision of more experienced colleagues, often providing support and assistance.
Roles and Responsibilities (Legal Associate)
To be successful in their litigation and solicitors’ roles, Associate must perform many different tasks.
- Providing support in offering legal solutions to clients
- Analytical understanding and interpretation of client problems and their resolution
- Filing and review of legal documents
- Manage litigation cases and resolve legal disputes on behalf of clients by developing agreements, negotiating contacts, settling claims, and advocating for clients in court.
- Ability to work in a wide range of fields, corporate, commercial, real estate, debt recovery, immigration, employment, insurance, maritime, intellectual property, personal injury, telecommunication, banking, corporate finance, taxation, shipping and admiralty, oil and gas, mining law and practice, family law among others.
- Preparing for the trials, and hearings and participating in the legal proceedings to gain more experience.
- Prepare, plan and present arguments and counterarguments in a court of law.
- Ability to complete extensive case-related research into relevant laws and regulations and negotiate on behalf of clients.
- Draft and interpret contracts and legal documents and oversee compliance with these documents.
- Create and maintain a good rapport with a firm’s clients throughout any legal process, this includes communicating often and explaining complex legal proceedings and concepts.
- Responsible for keeping all stakeholders – from senior colleagues to clients – abreast of the progress of a case by creating reports and/or communicating verbally.
Qualifications and Skills (Legal Associate)
- Degree in Law (LL. B)
- Must have been called to the Nigerian Bar (B.L)
- Masters in law (LL. M) is an added advantage
- Possess extensive legal knowledge.
- Ability to manage several projects simultaneously.
- Understanding confidentiality requirements
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with others.
- Persuasive communication with strong interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical abilities and extensive knowledge in their field.
- Dedicated, honest, and possessing integrity.
- Versatile and able to take the initiative in their work.
- Excellent critical and legal reasoning skills
- Good problem-solving skills
- Very strong focus on attention to detail
- Specialized knowledge in a particular field of law
