Job Title: Inventory Accountant

Job Summary

  • The Inventory Accountant is responsible for overseeing and managing all financial aspects related to inventory within the organization.
  • This role involves tracking and reconciling inventory transactions, maintaining accurate stock records, monitoring variances, and collaborating with other departments to ensure efficient inventory control.
  • The Inventory Accountant plays a crucial role in ensuring inventory valuation aligns with financial reporting standards and organizational policies.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Record and reconcile inventory transactions, including purchases, sales, returns, and transfers.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date inventory records in accounting systems.
  • Calculate inventory valuation using methods such as FIFO, LIFO, or weighted average as per company policy.
  • Prepare regular inventory reports, including month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Conduct periodic inventory counts and reconcile discrepancies.
  • Monitor stock levels to ensure inventory accuracy, flagging issues with stockouts, overages, or damages.
  • Collaborate with the Inventory Supervisor to address variances and improve inventory control practices.
  • Generate monthly and quarterly inventory cost reports and variance analyses.
  • Assist in budgeting and forecasting inventory requirements and related costs.
  • Support internal and external audits by providing accurate and timely inventory-related information.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen inventory controls and reduce risk of errors.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and system integrity within inventory modules.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree / HND in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration.
  • 2 years of experience in inventory management, accounting, or a similar role.
  • Strong knowledge of accounting principles related to inventory.
  • Excellent attention to detail, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication skills for collaboration across departments.
  • Experience in inventory-heavy industries (e.g., manufacturing, retail, or logistics) is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is a plus.

Salary
N200,000 monthly.
