Responsibilities

  • Manage and control all powerhouse activities.
  • Supervise general maintenance of powerhouse operations to ensure consistent and reliable electrical energy supply to the institute.
  • Oversees all the activities of powerhouse Staff to achieve operational objectives.
  • Oversee the installation, commissioning, and maintenance of new electrical equipment, including transformers, CCT breakers, (RMUs), and generators.
  • Maintain 22 distribution transformer substations (both industrial and domestic), with the incorporating RMUs.
  • Supervise the maintenance of approximately 14 kilometers of 11kV underground high-tension (HT) cables.
  • Maintenance of about 14kilometers 11kv underground H.T. cables.
  • Oversee the upkeep of about 3kilometers of the institute’s dedicated 33kV overhead power line.
  • Operate and maintain 4 × 1500kVA and 2000kVA generators, 11kV and 33kV panels, and step-up transformers.
  • Manage tripping units, battery banks, and associated protection systems.
  • Maintain 2 × 5000kVA (5MVA) power transformers to ensure performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of all powerhouse operations and maintenance activities.
  • Verify electricity bills before submission for payment approval.
  • Provide technical training and mentorship to subordinates in line with powerhouse operations.
  • Coordinate the activities of contractors involved in powerhouse projects.
  • Liaise with personnel to ensure proper maintenance of the institute’s dedicated power line.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Possession of Masters’ degree in Electrical Engineering or any other related field. The ideal candidate must have a minimum of Eight (8) years’ experience performing a similar role in a well-structured environment. is an added advantage.

Competencies:
The ideal candidate must:

  • Have in-depth knowledge of electrical systems, including the operation and maintenance of RMUs.
  • Be experienced in handling heavy-duty generators within large industrial or institutional environments.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Be proficient in reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings.
