Job Title: Chief Engineer

Location: Port Harcourt, Rivers

Employment Type: Full time


Core mission of the role:
  • Responsible for operations, maintenance, and repair of machinery equipment in the SEV- vessels for operational excellence.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Carry out inspections, minor repairs and maintenance programs onboard, as detailed in the planned maintenance system manual.
  • Preparation of the engine room for inspection and keep proper engine room watch.
  • Responsible for technical tools and tool boxes assigned to the vessel.
  • Management of subordinates and resources under him.
  • General problem solving, trouble-shooting and crisis management abilities.
  • Determines the engine consumables required and control the requisition of technical spares, ensuring engine room spare parts are adequate for supply in all voyages.
  • Ensure proper documentation logging of the hourly/daily engine room activities.
  • Manage bunker and bunkering operations onboard.
  • Assist workshop supervisors on maintenance, while onshore until allocation of vessels.
  • Interpersonal skills, team spirit and leadership skills are vital.
  • Computer skill, reporting ability and knowledge of company procedures as stated in the SMS manual.
  • ISM Code knowledge, and skills desirable.
  • Understanding of SOLAS and Class rules is desirable.

Educational Qualifications, Certifications and Experience:

Educational Qualifications:

  • Class 2 CoC (Engine capacity:>3000Kw) STCW’95 111/2 (NIMASA and other endorsed acceptable flags by NIMASA)
  • Mandatory Basic Safety (STCW ’95).

Courses:

  • NIMASA Medical Certificate.
  • BSc / HND or Trade Test with Workshop.

Experience:

  • 3 – 5 years’ work experience on a vessel.
  • Understanding the IMO – SOLAS Standards and Class rule will be added advantage
  • ISM Code Certification and skills required.
  • ISPS Code Certification is an added advantage.
  • Leadership Management Training Course/Certification in Maritime is an added advantage.
  • Discharge Book/Yellow Book/International
  • Passport/SID Number.
