Employment Type: Contract

Period: 75 days with regular progress updates and reporting as per the agreed-upon schedule

Description:
  • Consultancy for Capacity-building activities on cooperative development and social finance to address child labour issues and promote child-friendly practices in cocoa supply chains.

Details (Expected Tasks):
  • Organize consultative meetings with TRACE cocoa trading companies’ partners, cooperative enterprise members, and farmer organizations (Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria (CFAN) and Cocoa Association of Nigeria (CAN) to provide technical guidance to the TRACE partners (cocoa trading companies) to develop or review the existing risk assessment and adoption of mitigation plans and remediation system for addressing child labor risk in the cocoa supply chain. (5 days)
  • Organize training of trainers on the role of cooperatives in the elimination of child labour in business operations and the community with a relevant adapted tool(s). (10 days)
  • Provide technical guidance to existing and intending cooperatives in line with the TRACE program strategy, including supervising the step-down training program. (10 days)
  • Provide a technical report on risk assessment development or mitigation plans and capacity building of the TRACE cocoa cooperative groups on eliminating child labor among enterprise members and the supply chain. (15 days).
  • Using the ILO certificated (SCREAM) module training program Supporting Children’s Rights through Education the Arts and the Media to train parents, teachers, and community leaders to develop Child-friendly partnerships between cocoa farming communities, schools, and parent-teacher associations (30 days)
  • Final report (5 days).

Preferred Qualifications and Competences:
  • Advanced University Degree in Finance, Rural Development, Economics, Social Sciences, Geology, Engineering, or another relevant field.
  • At least ten years of experience in rural development, access to finance for rural and mining communities, and social policy at the national and/or international level, with specific reference to Nigeria,
  • Experts who have experience or participated in conducting the needs assessment for Cooperatives in the Cocoa sector on eliminating child labor in the sector.
  • At least ten years of experience in cooperative development and supporting the cocoa industry in developing remediation plans to mitigate child labor risk in the cocoa supply chain. Essential – someone who fully believes in and adopts the “child-friendly” concept.
  • Demonstrated experience in conducting institutional needs and capacity assessments to inform capacity-building support.
  • Excellent analysis and report writing skills including the ability to develop presentations and delivers them to stakeholders.
