Job Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive HSE Manager to join our HR/HSE team in Nigeria. The successful candidate will play a key role in monitoring health, safety, and environmental practices across all ENGIE Energy Access operations, field sites, and assets. Reporting to the Head of HR, this role is responsible for ensuring compliance, risk reduction, and embedding a strong HSE culture across the business.

Key Responsibilities

Support Execution of HSE Strategy

  • Implement and monitor a Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) strategy aligned with Nigerian legislation, ENGIE Group H&S Rules, ISO 45001, and industry best practices.

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and coordinate internal/external HSE audits.

  • Oversee EPC contractors’ adherence to ENGIE HSE standards during construction projects.

Execution of HSE Policies

  • Develop and promote behavioral change strategies to reduce incidents among employees, contractors, and third parties.

  • Stay updated on emerging HSE issues and global trends to ensure a safe working environment.

Reporting & Incident Follow-Up

  • Collect high-quality HSE data across departments to generate accurate metrics and dashboards.

  • Participate in incident investigations, implement corrective actions, and reduce recurrence.

  • Provide safe, confidential platforms for incident reporting.

Emergency & Crisis Management

  • Ensure emergency contingency plans are in place and conduct drills to test their effectiveness.

  • Respond promptly to HSE incidents and public safety concerns, carrying out investigations as required.

  • Prepare detailed incident summaries in line with ENGIE Group reporting standards.


Requirements

Education & Professional Background

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, HSE, Civil/Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, OSH, Security, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in HSE roles within energy, construction, manufacturing, oil & gas, or mining sectors.

  • Professional certification in HSE (e.g., NEBOSH, Behavioral Safety Management) is highly desirable.

Technical Skills

  • Strong knowledge of Nigerian and regional HSE laws, regulations, and construction project standards.

  • Proficiency in risk management tools (HAZID, HEMP, HAZOP, HIRA).

  • Familiarity with root cause analysis tools (e.g., Taproot, Ishikawa).

  • Competence in Microsoft Office and database management, with ability to design executive-level dashboards.

  • Experience managing security personnel and service providers is an advantage.

Soft Skills

  • Excellent leadership, influencing, and team motivation skills.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving ability.

  • High attention to detail and ability to work under pressure.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and prioritize effectively
