About the Company

Ecobank Transnational Incorporated (ETI), a public limited liability company, was established as a bank holding company in 1985 under a private sector initiative spearheaded by the Federation of West African Chambers of Commerce and Industry with the support of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).


Job Purpose

  • To supervise the settlement of all money market and capital market trades
  • To ensure the accuracy of records of all assets under safekeeping
  • To ensure all corporate action events are effectively processed by ensuring all income and entitlements on client’s assets are collected within agreed timelines, policies and regulatory guidelines
  • To supervise all custody operations staff
  • To ensure that regulatory reports are rendered within stipulated time frame
  • To ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Job Context

  • This role reports directly to the Head, Global Custody.  He/she should have a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, a substantial number of which should have been in a similar role. Must be self-driven with a strong work ethic and be a self-motivated professional.

Key Responsibilities

The core areas of focus will include, but not be limited to:

  • Supervise the matching of trade instructions with counterparties’ advice, to ensure promptness and accuracy of settlements
  • Supervise the processing of corporate actions events and ensure all customer requests and complaints are managed in an excellent/professional manner within agreed terms, policies, and regulatory guidelines
  • Maintain an accurate database of all clients and counterparties, keeping it updated from time to time
  • Manage the process of issuance of CCI and the repatriation of funds
  • Supervise the operations team which include the Settlements, Corporate Actions and Reconciliation sub-teams
  • Provide technical leadership and support to staff through enhancing capabilities and coaching
  • Escalate issues to the Head of Global Custody
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory rules and policies and render stipulated reports promptly and accurately to regulators.
  • Liaise with financial market infrastructures relevant to the asset safekeeping and administration process.
  • Represent the Custodian Bank at operations committees within the market.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 6 – 8 years banking experience in custody operations or treasury operations
  • SEC Sponsored individual will be an added advantage

Skills, Capabilities & Direct attributes

  • Prior knowledge of custody operations
  • Good understanding of the financial markets
  • Good understanding of the various investment instruments (Bonds, Equities, Treasury bills, etc.), and their attributes
  • Knowledge of CBN monetary policies & guidelines
  • Conversant with the SEC Rules and ISA Act 2007
