Job Summary:
- The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing a variety of venipuncture and skin puncture techniques to accurately collect blood, body fluid, and tissue specimens from patients for laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases.

Clinical Responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of routine blood drawing procedures including venipuncture and skin puncture techniques using standard equipment such as vacutainer tubes and sleeves, tourniquets, syringes and butterfly needles.
- Receiving customers to the lab in a friendly manner and thereby creating a great customer experience
- Utilize standard procedures for the maintenance of positive patient identification.
- Record appropriate collection information on proper requisitions.
- Prepare, process label store patient specimens and samples according to departmental procedures using standard techniques and equipment.
- Maintain specimen integrity by using an aseptic technique and observing isolation procedures.
- Transport specimens or fluid samples from the collection site to laboratories.
- Track collected specimens by initialling, dating, noting collection time and maintaining daily tallies of collections performed.
- Determine donor suitability, according to interview results, vital signs, and medical history.
Communication:
- Explain blood, tissue or fluid collection procedures to patients clearly, concisely, and understandingly.
Inventory:
- Maintains inventory and stock supplies on carts and hand trays in the Lab.
Maintenance:
- Organize or clean blood-drawing trays, ensuring that all instruments are sterile.
- Arrange and clean the working bench twice daily following cleaning procedure in the lab.
- Ensure all laboratory result logs are arranged and properly filed.
Health & Safety:
- Dispose of blood or other biohazard fluids or tissue in accordance with applicable laws, standards or policies.
- Ensure a clean, comfortable and safe environment for patients, clients and members of staff.
- Comply with all the provisions of the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) 2019.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned to you by Senior Leadership.
The Person:
- Minimum academic qualification of Medical Laboratory Technology Certificate of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria.
- 1 to 3 years of relevant work experience in a hospital or clinical setting that encompasses phlebotomy skills.
- Valid registration with the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria and must be licensed to practice.
- Knowledge of the Microsoft Office package.
- Outstanding communication (oral and written), interpersonal and people management skills.
- Possess a high degree of accuracy and attention to details.
