About the U.S. Consulate

The U.S. Mission to Nigeria comprises of the Embassy in Abuja, FCT, and the Consulate General in Lagos. U.S. Consulate General Lagos is the Mission’s representative to the Nigerian people in the southern region.


Summary

  • We are seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the Political/Economic position in the Political-Economic Section.

Duties

  • The incumbent assist with reporting on southern Nigeria.  Incumbent is responsible for monitoring and reporting on environmental and social issues in the 17 states that make up the Lagos consular district.
  • Incumbent analyzes and reports on relevant political, economic, environmental and social developments therein.

Requirements and skills

Requirements:

  • All selected candidates must be able to obtain and hold a secret level security clearance.
  • All selected candidates will be subject to a background investigation and may be subject to a pre-employment medical exam.
  • Selected candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (6 weeks) upon receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Economics, Business, Trade, Finance, or International Relations is required.

Evaluations:

  • You will be evaluated against the qualifications and requirements in this vacancy announcement.

Experience:

  • At least two (2) years of prior professional work experience in research, analysis, and drafting reports containing narrative and data is required.

Job Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of U.S. Embassy operations, structure of the Government of Nigeria, and the role of actors, as well as working knowledge of government protocol is required.

Skills And Abilities:

  • Analytical and drafting skills, particularly the ability to draft letters, memoranda, and more complex reports with minimal editing is required.

Salary
USD $48,225 / Per Year.
