About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Senior Accountant to strengthen our finance team. This role is critical to ensuring accurate reporting, regulatory compliance, and strategic financial leadership in our fast-paced fintech environment. The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and experienced in optimizing financial processes at scale.


Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Strategic Analysis

  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow).

  • Conduct advanced financial analysis to identify trends, forecast performance, and provide strategic recommendations.

Regulatory & Compliance

  • Lead preparation and submission of all CBN and NDIC regulatory reports within deadlines.

  • Oversee compliance with IFRS 9 standards, particularly Expected Credit Loss (ECL) provisioning and impairment modeling.

  • Ensure impairment results are accurately posted and reflected in reports.

Accounting Operations

  • Oversee transaction processing, payment approvals, and accurate postings in accounting software.

  • Ensure statutory payments are made on schedule.

  • Lead preparation of monthly bank reconciliations.

  • Supervise daily reconciliation of NIBSS, Mifos, Paystack, and other payment platforms, resolving discrepancies promptly.

Audit & Tax Management

  • Manage the external audit process, ensuring timely and efficient completion.

  • Work with tax consultants to ensure full tax compliance and remittances.

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Mentor and guide junior accountants, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

  • Collaborate with Operations, Technology, Risk, and C-suite executives to align financial strategies with business goals.


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • Professional certification (ACA, ACCA, CPA, or ICAN) required.

  • Minimum 5 years progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a senior role within fintech/financial services.

  • Proven expertise in payment systems, settlement processes, and financial reporting frameworks.

  • Advanced proficiency with accounting software and financial tools; experience with Mifos is highly desirable.

  • Strong knowledge of IFRS 9 application in financial services/lending.

  • Demonstrated ability to prepare financial statements from scratch.

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Strong leadership and mentorship experience.

  • High integrity, sound judgment, and strong professional ethics.
