Role Overview
The Senior Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for the strategic planning, deployment, and maintenance of enterprise database systems. This role ensures database stability, security, and performance, while also providing leadership in troubleshooting complex issues and mentoring junior DBAs.
The Senior DBA will play a key role in database design, optimization, capacity planning, and ensuring data integrity to support organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Database Security & Compliance

Lead efforts to secure databases, managing user access and ensuring compliance with policies, standards, and regulations.
Performance Tuning & Optimization
-
Proactively monitor and optimize database performance by identifying and resolving bottlenecks and optimizing queries.
Capacity Planning & High Availability
-
Develop and implement strategies to ensure scalability, high availability, and fault tolerance.
Complex Problem Resolution
-
Serve as the primary escalation point for complex database issues, collaborating with internal teams and vendors for resolution.
Upgrades & Patch Management
-
Oversee deployment of upgrades, patches, and releases with minimal downtime and maximum reliability.
Disaster Recovery & Backup Management
-
Design and implement disaster recovery strategies, including backup, restore, and rollback processes.
Project Leadership & Support

Provide technical leadership for database-related projects, ensuring requirements and timelines are met.
Compliance & Standards
-
Ensure adherence to Ikeja Electric’s Quality Management System, Occupational Health & Safety standards, and applicable regulations.
Continuous Improvement

Drive improvements in database administration processes, adopting emerging technologies and best practices.
Collaboration

Maintain effective relationships with internal teams and third-party vendors to ensure seamless operations.
Requirements
Education
-
First Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
-
A postgraduate degree (M.Tech/M.E, or MBA in IT Management) is an advantage.
Experience
-
6–8 years’ hands-on experience in database administration with enterprise-level RDBMS (SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle).

Minimum 5 years administering Linux and Windows Server environments.

Experience supporting Microsoft Windows Server Applications, Web Servers, and multi-tier infrastructures.
Skills & Competencies

Expert-level knowledge of database design, development, and administration.

Advanced proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL, and other database query languages.

Strong experience in performance tuning, backup/recovery, and high availability strategies.

In-depth knowledge of data security, compliance standards (e.g., GDPR, PCI-DSS), and protection practices.

Strong leadership and mentoring skills with the ability to guide junior DBAs.

Excellent problem-solving, critical-thinking, and communication skills.

Ability to work across technical and non-technical teams with high accountability and attention to detail.
