Job Summary
- The Senior Tax Associate is responsible for ensuring timely and accurate tax computations, filings, and remittances in compliance with relevant federal and state tax regulations.
- This role involves direct engagement with tax authorities (FIRS and LIRS), coordination with external consultants, preparation of internal tax reports, and support for financial audits.
- The ideal candidate possesses strong analytical skills, in-depth knowledge of Nigerian tax laws, and a keen eye for detail.
Key Responsibilities
Computation and Filing:
- Compute and file monthly Value Added Tax (VAT) returns.
- Compute and file monthly Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax remittances.
- Prepare and file Annual Employer Returns (e.g., Form H1).
Tax Payment & Remittance:
- Calculate and arrange timely payments of all tax liabilities to the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) and Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS).
- Maintain accurate records of all tax payments and receipts.
Tax Reporting & Statistics:
- Prepare and maintain accurate monthly tax reports and statistics for internal use and compliance tracking.
Regulatory Liaison:
- Liaise with FIRS on federal tax matters and with LIRS (or other relevant state IRS) on state tax matters.
- Coordinate with external tax consultants for correct interpretation and application of tax regulations.
Audit Coordination:
- Prepare and provide documentation during FIRS and LIRS tax audits.
- Support the annual statutory financial audit by preparing necessary tax schedules, reconciliations, and compliance documentation.
Report Submission:
- Submit VAT reports – Monthly
- Submit PAYE reports – Monthly
- Submit Tax Statistics Reports – Monthly
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- ICAN, ACCA, or CITN certification is highly desirable.
- Minimum of 3–5 years experience in a tax or accounting role, preferably within a structured organization or tax consultancy firm.
- Strong knowledge of Nigerian tax laws, policies, and regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage, SAP).
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills for liaising with internal and external stakeholders.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
